But the burden to fix publishing mainly falls on creators. We should always work to hook readers without falling back on dishonest tricks. The best writing captivates through the originality of its composition and the power of the ideas, not by simply making people nod real big and quote tweet, “THIS a thousand times.”
I actually disagree. I think that there is equal responsibility on the part of the reader, if not more — they’re the ones clicking on the click-bated articles in the first place, incentivising the writing of them.
That said, I’m also holding out, and believe that if I write well enough my words will stand for themselves rather than buoyed by the buzz of the current feeding frenzy.
But until such a time as I can write well enough, I guess it’s a slow round of golf claps.
